Pterosoft Studio has released Clarity 1.0, a free image upscaling and resizing application for Windows.
Clarity combines AI-powered enhancement with traditional resizing filters inside a clean, accessible desktop interface. The application processes images locally and uses DirectML to accelerate compatible workloads on the GPU.
Users can enlarge photographs, improve images containing text, upscale game textures, or perform predictable classic resizing. Clarity does not require cloud processing or the upload of private source files.
Version 1.0 marks the first full public release of the application.
AI upscaling for photographs, text, and textures
Clarity’s AI mode analyses the source image before generating a larger result. It does more than stretch the existing pixels.
The application attempts to recover clearer edges, improve visible detail, and reduce the softness associated with conventional enlargement. Different content types require different treatment, so Clarity supports workflows beyond ordinary photography.
Photographers can use the application to enlarge older or low-resolution images. Designers can improve screenshots, interface elements, signs, and documents containing text.
Game developers can also use Clarity to upscale textures for modern rendering pipelines. This may prove useful when original assets exist only at lower resolutions.
The final result still depends on the quality of the source. No upscaling system can reconstruct information that never existed. However, AI processing can often produce a more convincing enlargement than traditional interpolation alone.
Clarity keeps the process straightforward. Users open an image, select the appropriate method, configure the desired scale, and start processing.
Classic resizing remains available
AI enhancement does not suit every task. Some workflows require predictable mathematical resizing without generated detail.
For this reason, Clarity 1.0 also includes several classic filters:
- Point, also known as nearest-neighbour resizing
- Bilinear interpolation
- Bicubic interpolation
- Cubic B-Spline interpolation
Point resizing preserves hard pixel boundaries. It works particularly well for pixel art, masks, lookup textures, and other images that should not receive smoothing.
Bilinear interpolation produces fast and balanced results by blending neighbouring pixels. It offers a practical option for general resizing when speed matters more than maximum sharpness.
Bicubic interpolation analyses a larger group of neighbouring pixels. Clarity provides options suitable for sharper or smoother results.
Cubic B-Spline interpolation creates softer transitions and clean gradients. It can help when aggressive sharpening would produce unwanted edges or ringing.
Users can switch between AI and classic processing directly inside the application. This makes Clarity suitable for both creative enhancement and technically controlled resizing.
DirectML provides GPU acceleration
Clarity uses Microsoft DirectML to accelerate AI processing on compatible Windows GPUs.
DirectML provides a hardware-accelerated machine-learning layer within the DirectX ecosystem. It allows Clarity to use available graphics hardware without restricting the application to a single GPU manufacturer.
The integration helps the application reach maximum processing speed on supported hardware. The exact performance depends on the selected model, source resolution, output size, GPU, and available memory.
Local GPU acceleration also removes the delays associated with remote upload queues. Users do not need to transfer a large image to an external server before processing can begin.
Once the application loads the selected model, the GPU performs the upscaling directly on the user’s PC. The finished image remains available inside the local workflow.
Images remain on the user’s computer
Clarity processes source images locally.
This approach matters when working with private photographs, unpublished artwork, commercial textures, confidential documents, or development assets covered by a non-disclosure agreement.
Many online upscaling services require users to upload their files to an external server. That approach can introduce privacy concerns, file-size restrictions, processing queues, or recurring subscription costs.
Clarity does not require cloud processing. Images do not need to leave the user’s computer to receive AI enhancement.
Local operation also gives users greater control over their workflow. They can process files without depending on the availability of a remote service.
A focused desktop interface
Clarity 1.0 uses a bright, modern interface designed around the image itself.
Users can move between the original input and processed result, select AI or classic enhancement, configure the output, and save the finished image from one application window.
The interface also reports the selected processing backend and current operation status. This provides visibility without overwhelming users with unnecessary technical controls.
Pterosoft Studio designed Clarity for people who need a specialised image tool rather than another complicated creative suite.
The application does not attempt to replace professional image-editing software. Instead, it focuses on performing one task clearly: enlarging images through either intelligent AI reconstruction or reliable classic interpolation.
Free to download and use
Clarity 1.0 is available free of charge.
Pterosoft Studio wants photographers, artists, designers, game developers, and ordinary PC users to access local image upscaling without a mandatory subscription.
The free release includes both AI enhancement and the available classic resize filters. Users do not need to pay to unlock local processing.
Future development will focus on improving output quality, model performance, hardware compatibility, stability, and the overall user experience.
Feedback from the first public release will help determine which features and models should receive priority in subsequent updates.
Supporting future development
Clarity remains an independently developed application. Building and maintaining it requires development time, testing hardware, model research, hosting, and continued compatibility work.
Users who find Clarity useful can voluntarily support Pterosoft Studio through Patreon.
Financial contributions help fund maintenance, performance improvements, testing, and future tools. Support remains optional and does not change the free availability of Clarity 1.0.
Users can also help by sharing the application, reporting reproducible problems, and providing constructive feedback about image quality or hardware compatibility.
